Most people think that when you graduate law school your main goal should be to figure out a way to join the biggest firm that is out there. The reason for this is that people associate big firms with prestige and wealth, and for the most part this means that if you truly care about your field then you would want to join on of these big players.
Now, it’s definitely true that big name firms are a great way to make a name for yourself, but that’s only applicable if you are a specific kind of person. Not everyone wants to be some kind of a hotshot attorney that everyone wants to hire. Some people just want to put the work in and call it a day, and that is something that would be more or less impossible if you were working at a large law firm in a big city.
If you want a better work life balance then it might do you a fair amount of good to check out smaller firms. Small firms do important work as well and they can potentially offer some good salary packages, but the thing about them is that they are not going to demand your entire day from you. You will be done in the evening and you can go home and relax, and you wouldn’t have to work on your day off quite as much either. This leads to a much better quality of life which is the kind of thing that you simply cannot skimp out on.
